Service providers should help prevent cyber crime

Over the years, data capacities and speeds were the determinants that Kenyans used to decide the best suited Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to work with. With the rise in internet penetration in Kenya, standing at 45 per cent, data security is becoming the next big story.

ISPs can increase revenue and customer loyalty by guaranteeing security in the online space for their clients. Cyber-security processes and operations, especially for business applications has become quite complex, requiring trained cyber security specialists, constant vigilance and huge investments in technology. Small Medium Enterprises cannot afford the investment.

Therefore, they look to outsourcing these services, hence the increased demand for managed security services as offered by ISPs. ISPs possess the reach and skilled personnel to meet these needs for businesses and which may pave way for opportunities in delivering data center services where data security is a key consideration.
