Free, unlimited, and secure VPN for Google Chrome

3 May 2016

Are you a Google Chrome user who's now feeling left out since Opera baked a VPN into its browser? Fear not! Adding VPN support to the browser is something that you can do with a couple of clicks.

One of the hardest parts about picking security software is making sure that you're dealing with a reputable firm that puts your security and privacy ahead of their needs. One such company is AnchorFree, the firm behind the Hotspot Shield VPN service. This is a company that is driven by privacy, and openly admits to not wanting your data.

And, as you might have guessed, Hotspot Shield have an extension for Google Chrome that's not only free to use, but is ad-free and totally unlimited. I've been using it here for some time now and it does what is says it does, and has been totally reliable.

Wondering what a VPN is? A VPN - which is short for Virtual Private Network - is a secure connection between your web browser and the VPN server on the web, which means that your web traffic is protected from prying eyes as it travels across the Wi-Fi, cellular network or broadband connection you are using.

Hotspot Shield also has apps for iOS, Android, Mac, Windows and Windows Mobile.
